Creating Memories & Cherishing Moments – Our Photography Project

CHALLENGE - Image Credit Robyna MayWhen we started to chat about this month’s central theme – creating memories and cherishing moments – we started talking about the WHY behind our photos.

As bloggers, we are learning the art of the flat-lay, the instagram-able moment, the pinterest-worthy image. We laugh with each other as we move things around to “style” a lovely shot, but these images are fleeting. We aren’t likely to print them out and keep them in an album. They are never going to grace our walls or frames. So often we grab our phones with the intention of immediately sharing the pic and without the intention of keeping it for posterity.

So, we decided that we would commit to taking photos outside of the intention to share on social media. Images that caught our eye. New ways to use our cameras. Different kinds of moments.

And, in a somewhat ironic move, we are sharing them with you today.

The world according to my five year old + An AWESOME Give Away!

Photo credit Robyna MayMaster I is a character.  I know this because the first thing his Prep teacher said at our inaugural teacher/parent interview was “ah, your son is quite a character.”

She wasn’t the first to make the observation.  I am still unsure as to whether this is a compliment, but at least he stands out from the crowd.  Never a bad thing.  He does do and say things that are ridiculously hilarious.  Every time I relay one of his quirky stories, I am told – “I do hope you are writing all this down.”

So, this is me, writing it down.

Five super ace awesome things about being a FIFO wife

Over the last month I can safely say that I burnt myself out and ended up really sick. I also faced up to the fact that I can’t do ‘life’ on my own anymore and asked my husband to come home. It was a big, scary question to ask, but he said “yes” without even blinking. It’s a good feeling to know he’s coming home once he finds the right job.

I know what you’re all thinking – that’s not very funny Sarah…

DJ Lance 2

Well in an effort to turn my frown upside down, I thought I’d have a think about what makes FIFO life (or DIDO, BIBO, etc) super ace awesome fun! *said with a DJ Lance voice. Here is what I have come up with: Continue reading

Taking Stock – October

Taking Stock - Image by Robyna

The very lovely Pip Lincolne from Meet Me At Mikes has created a beautiful way to create a snapshot of your life at a particular moment: Taking Stock.

It’s a list of prompts that capture where you are, what you are doing, how you are feeling and where you are going.   I did this as part of Pip’s Blog with Pip course and I am just bursting to share it with you. Continue reading

Operation Daycare

If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook you might have seen these lovely photos we posted on Friday.

Aren't we amazing and have it so

Weren’t we having a FABULOUS day! Delicious bubbly to celebrate being picked as finalists in the 2014 Bupa Blog Awards at a lovely place in the city and no children! We had uninterrupted conversations and for a short moment I remembered how easy things once were.

This however, was my highlight reel. To get to this point, bubbles in hand and adult conversation under way, took a fair bit of effort. Getting my little human to daycare went something along these lines, enjoy: Continue reading

Why I am all for Halloween in Australia

Halloween Image-2
There are issues that divide this nation.
Which way the toilet paper roll should be hung.  Whether the toothpaste should be squeezed from top or bottom.  Whether the toilet seat should be left up or down.  Okay, maybe these are issues that just divide my household.

But there is one topic that comes around this time of year guaranteed to polarise opinion: HALLOWEEN Continue reading
