The very lovely Pip Lincolne from Meet Me At Mikes has created a beautiful way to create a snapshot of your life at a particular moment: Taking Stock.
It’s a list of prompts that capture where you are, what you are doing, how you are feeling and where you are going. I did this as part of Pip’s Blog with Pip course and I am just bursting to share it with you.
In a month when we are looking at creating memories and cherishing the moments (more about that on Wednesday), it seems a lovely way to start.
This is my Taking Stock for October (in rhyme).
Making: Softies for Mirabel, that my five year old keeps claiming.
Cooking: Very simple dishes, unless I’m entertaining.
Drinking:Lemon, lime and bitters, and wishing it were French Bubbles.
Reading: Post-apocalyptic fiction as it gives perspective to my troubles.
Wanting: More time to write, to laugh and spend with my boys.
Looking: At a great big mess, a house taken hostage by its toys.
Playing: At being a wordsmith, a creator and a poet.
Deciding: Whether it should be pronounced Mo-aye or Mo-wett*.
Wishing: I was lying on a beach somewhere in Fiji.
Enjoying: Writing this poem when the rhymes come easily.
Waiting: For my boys to come home from school and a play.
Liking: That I get to see my children each and every day.
Wondering: Whether I will ever sleep an entire night again.
Loving: That my little baby is so worth that pain.
Pondering: The direction in which my life is going.
Considering: When I might get do some more sewing.
Watching: Re-runs of Offspring, so I can get my fix.
Hoping: Nina and her family return in season six.
Marvelling: At the world through my baby’s big blue eyes.
Needing: To stop and just watch the clouds floating through the skies.
Smelling: Freshly watered grass on day that’s nice and sunny.
Wearing: Frocks every day to raise Frocktober money.
Following: All the other Frock Stars on my insta feed.
Noticing: I have many more dresses than I strictly need.
Knowing: That I am a really very very lucky.
Thinking: I won’t have another baby, even if I’m clucky.
Feeling: Kind of tired, but both happy and content.
Admiring: Julia Gillard, I saw her speak: so eloquent.
Sorting: Out all the million things running through my head.
Buying: Nothing this month as I am going to donate instead.
Getting: Out of bed is the best part of my day.
Bookmarking: All the blogs: I want to hear what you have to say.
Disliking: That we don’t save the daylight here.
Opening: Up more bills than parcels I fear.
Giggling: Over some of the lines that I have written.
Feeling: That the blogging bug has definitely bitten.
Snacking: Freshly baked banana bread, the butter all seeped in
Coveting: The amount of times my husband has sleeped in.
Wishing:That I could catch some good quality Zzzz’s.
Helping: To shed light on an insidious disease.
Hearing: Nothing at all but the sound of my computer hum,
Which is really kind of nice when you are a busy mum!
Do you want to play along? It’s tremendous fun and Pip is a very generous sort who likes others to join in. Here is Pip’s blank list:
You can do all the list, or part of it. Rhyme is completely optional. Some of us just having showing-off issues.
